Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ordering a cake. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, just get in touch.
Ordering
-
As early as you can. Most cakes need at least a couple of weeks’ notice to plan the design and prepare everything, and popular dates, particularly weekends, can book up well in advance. For wedding cakes, it’s best to get in touch several months ahead. If you need a cake sooner, still get in touch, as I may have availability.
-
Sometimes. If your date is less than a week away, get in touch anyway. I can’t always help at short notice, but I’ll always do my best to fit you in.
-
Send me an enquiry with your date, the occasion, roughly how many people you’re feeding, and any ideas you may have. I’ll come back to you with design options to choose from, and once you’re happy with the design, I’ll send you a quote.
-
Every cake is priced individually, depending on size, design and detail. As a guide:
Celebration cakes: from £75 for a 6-inch cake serving 10 to 12
Wedding cakes: most two- and three-tier cakes are between £300 and £600
Cupcakes: from £20 for a box of six
Decorations often come at an additional cost, but you’ll always have a full quote before you commit to anything.
-
A 50% non-refundable deposit secures your date. The remaining balance is due before your cake is collected or delivered.
-
I’m happy to make changes to your design wherever I can. Changes made after your design has been confirmed may affect the final price, but I’ll always let you know before anything is updated. Date changes depend on availability. Deposits are non-refundable if an order is cancelled.
Design and flavours
-
I don’t copy another baker’s design exactly, but photos of cakes you love are really helpful. I’ll use them as inspiration to design something new around the details you like.
-
You can see the full list on my Flavour Menu. If there’s something you’d like that isn’t listed, just let me know when you enquire.
-
Yes, each tier can be a different flavour.
-
Yes, for wedding cakes. Tasting boxes are £30, and if you go ahead and book your wedding cake with me, the £30 is deducted from your final invoice.
-
Please let me know about any allergies or dietary requirements when you enquire. I can leave specific ingredients out of your cake, but as everything is made in a home kitchen, I can’t guarantee any cake is free from traces of any of the 14 major allergens, including gluten, eggs, milk, soya, peanuts and tree nuts. Full allergen information is included with your quote, and again with your cake on collection or delivery.
Sizes and servings
-
As a guide, a single-tier, three-layer cake serves:
6" · 10 to 12
8" · 18 to 22
10" · 28 to 32
12" · 42 to 48Four-layer cakes are taller and will serve more. Servings also depend on how the cake is cut, and smaller finger portions will serve considerably more. Let me know your guest numbers when you enquire and I’ll help you choose the right size.
Collection and delivery
-
Cakes are collected from Woodbridge, at a date and time we agree together. You’ll get full collection details once your order is confirmed.
-
Yes, across Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex, depending on the order and the date. Delivery is priced by distance and travel time, and I’ll include the cost in your quote so you know exactly where you stand before you book.
-
Yes. Wedding cakes are delivered and set up at your venue, ready for the day.
-
If you’re collecting, place the cake on a flat surface in the car (the boot or a footwell is best, not on a seat) and keep it as cool as possible. Cakes are best enjoyed within three days. Certain cakes may need to be stored in the fridge, and I’ll give you storage guidance specific to your cake.
